What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles into the skin at specific places in the body called acupuncture points. Acupuncture stimulates the flow of energy within the body, allowing the body to start healing naturally. Acupuncture can only be performed by certified practitioners who have completed a four-year educational course and are licensed.

How does it work?

Oriental medicine believes that wellness is present when the body is balanced and when the person is in harmony with the external environment. Then energy (Qi) flows throughout the body along 12 channels known as meridians. But if a problem occurs, the Qi is disrupted and cannot flow, which causes illness. Acupuncture stimulates the meridians and allows Qi to flow, creating balance and health.

In the west, acupuncture is well-known for its exellence in relieving pain so that the majority of research has been done in this area. For example, using MRI, researchers tracked the change in the body when an acupuncture needle is inserted at specific acupuncture points and found the changes in the brain. Acupuncture releases pain-relieving chemicals, such as endorphins and serotonin and targets pain trigger points. Acupuncture also stimulates the pituitary gland to release cortisol, a hormone that reduces inflammation.

Acupuncture has been proven effective by both Oriental and Western medicine to heal the body. Oriental medicine uses a holistic approach to help prevent and treat diseases that relies on the body’s natural healing ability to restore good health. Western medicine tends to use drugs and surgery to heal the body. A combination of both medicines can bring the ideal environment of health and healing to the body. I am pleased to be able to serve you and look forward to hearing from you. Schedule your appointment today! Call 650-815-8251 or use the online contact form.

Herbal Medicine – “Healing with nature’s gentle plants”

Herbs are mainly used to strengthen the body’s immune system. However, some have many other actions such as helping to fight cold, cure indigestion, dry dampness and relive constipation, etc. The herbs used at Meridian Healing are of the finest quality available. They are carefully selected from high quality companies in Korea, China and the U.S. All herbal prescriptions are carefully formulated according to each patient’s constitution and specific disharmony. Each formula usually contains a number of separate herbs that work together to create the desired effect. I am fully trained and experienced at determining contraindication or drug interactions of these herbs.

Herbal medicine is as ancient as acupuncture and is a major aspect of Oriental medicine. Acupuncture treatments are best combined with herbal formulas. Herbs enhance the therapeutic effects of an acupuncture treatment. They are something you can take at home to support your healing between acupuncture treatments.

Meditation – “Harmony in the body”

Meditation creates harmony between the mind and body. Western medicine has also proven that it reduces stress and lowers blood pressure. Oriental medicine knows that it can open channels and meridians, increase the flow of life energy and calm the central nervous system so that it can heal.

Through meditation, you can reduce stress, experience peace of mind and enlighten your spirits. Meditation is also a means for discovering for yourself through your own direct inner experience. Long-term meditation brings the increase of life energy that is the very basis of health and well-being.

I have trained Tao meditation for the past 10 years. Taoism is the specific branch of meditation I practiced to delve inside myself. The ancient meditation methods of Taoism have been used for thousands of years to help people cope with stress and the challenging issues of the times.

Most people should meditate daily for at least 15-30 minutes a day (or as many days a week as possible) to release accumulated stress in the body and mind. It takes a certain amount of time to begin releasing the nervous tension in the body. From a practical point of view, you can save yourself a lot of grief by spending just 15-30 minutes a day letting go through meditation rather than allowing stress to accumulate.

Healing meditation services I provide:

  • individual guidance during treatment
  • help you stabilize your body and breath
  • teach mind control techniques to develop consciousness of your innate mind
  • direct feedback on your progress
